ETO (Ethylene Oxide)

There is no doubt that Ethylene Oxide (ETO) plays an invaluable role in the sterilization of hospital supplies and equipment. But at the same time, it is a colorless, odorless, highly toxic gas strongly suspected to be a cancer-causing agent. Exposure to ETO can reduce employee effectiveness with short-term eye or respiratory irritation, skin rashes, headache, nausea and dizziness.

Monitoring your employees’ exposure to EtO, holding that exposure to acceptable limits, and warning your employees of ETO emergencies is the law. Random inspections and, occasionally, an accompanying citation with a maximum fine of $7,000 for each violation enforce Key regulations. ARTEC Environmental can help keep your organization compliant with changing laws and recommendations while maintaining a healthy environment for your employees and patients alike.
