Glutaraldehyde

Glutaraldehyde is a toxic chemical linked to respiratory illnesses, including severe irritation of the upper respiratory tract. It may also be absorbed through the skin, causing possible long-term effects. Glutaraldehyde is present in many different sterilizing and cleaning fluids in the operating room, central supply, laboratory, and respiratory care and dialysis areas. Because Glutaraldehyde is used under so many different brand names, employees may not even know it is in use.

This disinfectant can have a negative impact on productivity among health care workers, causing substandard performance, increased absenteeism and expensive health insurance claims. Exposure to Glutaraldehyde can ultimately be the root of costly litigation. ARTEC Environmental Monitoring can ensure your organization is measuring its levels of Glutaraldehyde and keeping it at acceptable levels, thus maintaining both patient and employee health.
